Never-Ending Tomatoes

The day is coming that I’ll never need to buy another tomato ever again.

How long before I can feed us all, I wonder…?

Way back in 2013, I had plans to grow a vegetable garden in the parking lot behind my building. For those interested, this is a definitive case study in Time Blindness — I planted jalapeno peppers, sweet peppers, cucumbers and a couple of tomato and strawberry plants — and I had absolutely no inkling of what I was getting myself into.

As it was, I managed an embarrassing crop my first time out. I think I may have mentioned my dismal results in my “Potato” article.

The next year (2014) is when I planted the first bottle towers. I had spent the winter researching (and saving up empty 2-litre soda bottles, thanks to my cola addiction. We won’t talk about whether or not rum may have been involved).

She loves the smell of tomato plants in the morning…!
